Tammy Swanson

Math Tutor
Tammy has 25 years experience teaching all levels of math in both public and private high schools. She has been a math tutor since 1985, and specializes in helping students manage "math anxiety" and seeing their way through a subject in spite of learning differences. She decided to leave the classroom and begin tutoring full time when she realized she could better use her years of classroom experience and teaching skills to bridge the gap between the lessons students receive and the clarity and understanding that seem so elusive to them. "Student stress levels are so high these days. I'd like to help alleviate some of that." Tammy earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Teaching Credential from Loyola Marymount University and her Cross-Cultural Language and Acquisition and Development Certification from University of San Diego.
Tammy tutors high school mathematics course topics, and some middle school and community college course topics, as well. And she can coach you in standardized test prep, and organizational and time management strategies, in addition to day-to-day math course work methodologies.

Ken Blake

Test Prep & English Tutor
Ken is a licensed attorney with a lifelong passion for education. Born and raised in New York, Ken developed a love of literature in high school and studied philosophy in college, where he graduated with high honors. Ken enjoyed being a teaching assistant responsible for three sections of Introduction to Philosophy at Syracuse. Seeking real-world applications for the reasoning skills he developed studying philosophy and logic in graduate school, Ken then attended Fordham University School of Law. He went on to become a prosecutor in the Special Victim’s Bureau of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. There he handled the most serious and difficult cases, mainly fighting for child victims in court. This work required Ken to explain difficult concepts to young people and it gave Ken a unique ability to connect with them.
Having taken almost every standardized test available, Ken is eager to give students a leg up on the exams they are taking. His love of writing, critical thinking and literature compelled him to re-enter the field of education upon moving here with his family.
